Flash Flood warnings

Flash flood warnings up for Lee (again) and Wise Counties...these go until 4:15, for now. Some roads flooded yesterday, some state routes were impassable in Stickleyville. Heavy rain still training through and more on the way it appears.

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Claiborne County in east Tennessee...
Han**** County in east Tennessee...
Lee County in southwest Virginia...
Wise County in southwest Virginia...
City of Norton in southwest Virginia...

* until 415 PM EDT

* at 1019 am EDT... Doppler radar revealed an extensive area of showers and thunderstorms over the northern Cumberland Plateau and Cumberland mountains that were producing heavy rainfall. Doppler radar has estimated that up to two inches of rain has already fallen in the past three hours... with additional rainfall amounts of two to three inches possible during the next several hours. The ground over the warned area remains fully saturated... so additional rainfall amounts of this magnitude will likely cause flash flooding of many areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

yeah i had to get up early and move our trailer and some other stuff out of our back yard, we live right beside the river in east stone.

Flash Flood warnings changed to Flood warnings until 7:30 tonight for Lee, Russell, Scott, Washington, and Wise. Buchanan and D ickenson under Flash Flood warnings until 9 p.m. Reports of significant flooding in the area. Back edge of the rain shield about to move through, with some scattered showers behind it, so the bulk of this band about over with...some more heavier showers could move through later though still yet.

A lot of flooding going on in Wise County. I saw some photos on WCYB of flooding going on in Norton and BSG

Heard the same down here in Lee also, the Powell is out of its banks in places and pretty high too.

Flood warnings extended until 10:15 for Lee, Russell, Scott, Washington, and Wise.

* at 708 PM EDT... a band of moderate rain is continuing to move northeast across southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee. Numerous reports of flooding of area roadways have been received this evening across the warning area. Also... several small streams are out of their banks. Flooding has been reported at a trailer park in Johnson City with up to 3 feet of water. Periods of rain will continue through 10 PM with additional rainfall between one-half and 1 inch possible.
